What We Do

Step 1 - Consultation

To initiate a phone or FaceTime consultation, simply give us a call or email us to schedule an appointment. Our knowledgeable and experienced permaculture landscape designers will then connect with you at the pre-arranged time to discuss your project.
During the consultation, our priority is to understand your specific needs, preferences, and goals for your permaculture landscape. We will guide you through a series of questions, deeply delving into your property's unique features, soil conditions, microclimates, and available resources. Understanding these aspects is crucial in developing a design that optimizes both the beauty and functionality of your landscape.
To ensure a productive consultation, we highly recommend that you share any relevant information or documents before the scheduled call. This may include property surveys, soil test results, photographs, or even rough sketches of your landscape.
If you choose a FaceTime consultation, we can virtually tour your property together, allowing us to gain a better understanding of the current layout and discuss potential design opportunities. For phone consultations, detailed descriptions and photographs of your property can greatly aid the visualization process.

Step 2 - Design

Once we have gathered all the necessary information, our permaculture landscape designers will begin formulating a tailored design plan for your property. We take great care in considering the principles of permaculture, such as water management, soil health, biodiversity, and incorporating sustainable practices. Our goal is to design a landscape that not only enriches your surroundings but also promotes resilience and harmony with nature.
After the consultation, we will provide you with a comprehensive design proposal that outlines the key features, plant selections, and permaculture techniques that we recommend for your landscape. This proposal will serve as a guide for you to execute the design yourself or in collaboration with us.

Step 3 - Renovation

The next step involves removing unwanted turf or plants through various methods such as manual labor or the use of machinery, ensuring that the yard is cleared of any debris. Once the area is cleared, we amend the soil with organic matter to optimize its fertility and drainage. Finally, we plant the carefully selected native and edible species, having taken into account their specific requirements for soil, water, and sunlight. Throughout the process, our knowledgeable team provides guidance and advice, ensuring that the transformation of the yard into a thriving pollinator garden or edible paradise is a seamless and enjoyable experience for our clients.

Step 4 - Maintenance

At Piedmont Perennials, we understand the importance of maintaining a thriving native pollinator garden or a bountiful edible landscape. After planting your native pollinator garden or edible landscape, the first month is crucial for ensuring the long-term success and thriving of your new green space, and we provide plans to do that maintenance for you. In this initial period, it is important to monitor the watering needs of your plants regularly. Native pollinator gardens usually require less water once established, but during the first month, they should be watered deeply and frequently to promote root development. We are sure to remove any weeds that may compete with your plants for resources, eliminating them by hand or using natural weed control methods. Additionally, inspect for any signs of pests or diseases and promptly address any issues to prevent potential damage. Keep an eye on the growth and health of your plants, and adjust your care routines accordingly. A well-maintained first month will lay the foundation for a flourishing native pollinator garden or edible landscape that will bring beauty and benefits for years to come.

Also, we plan for longer-term maintenance. With our optional yearly or bi-yearly maintenance plans, we ensure that your garden continues to flourish and provide a haven for pollinators or a source of fresh, homegrown produce. Our skilled team of gardeners will visit your garden at regular intervals, providing meticulous care and attention to every plant. This includes tasks such as pruning, weeding, mulching, and fertilizing as necessary, keeping your garden healthy and vibrant. Additionally, we offer personalized advice and guidance on pest control, disease prevention, and seasonal planting strategies. With our maintenance plans, you can rest assured that your native pollinator garden or edible landscape will always be in expert hands.
